Baby's too short a time on earth

Our baby Lilah was born 5 weeks early and a very healthy 5lb 13. She had no health issues but she was unable to feed properly due to her being premature. This resulted in what we hoped would be a short period in special care until Lilah matured.

The minute Lilah was handed to me I was so content and for the first time ever, completely fulfilled. She looked just like her big brother, chubby cheeks, mousey hair, squidgy nose, and I was so happy and excited by this, I thought to myself, yes, I have two of them!

When it was time to go home, it wasn't easy to leave Lilah behind in special care at Jessops maternity hospital, but we comforted ourselves with the thought of it only being until the next morning, and in a few weeks she would be home with us all.

The next day my husband and I were told Lilah was unwell and they couldn't find why. X-rays and blood tests later, we were told Lilah had a hole in her bowel. It was horrible seeing our tiny baby hooked up to machines but we knew she would get through this as thousands of babys do. She was taken away to the Childrens hospital to be operated on and hours later we were able to visit her. She was in Intensive care and it was then that we were told the devestating news that Lilah was severely sick, not because of a hole in her bowel but due to a Gastric perferation in her stomach which led to Peritonitis.

Peritonitis took our babys life the early hours the next morning. The worst day of our lives. As I write this, there are still many unanswered questions and fingers crossed, in the coming weeks we might be given the answers we desperately need.

Our baby Lilah is missed every second of every day and loved to the moon and stars and back again. She was only here for a short time but left a huge print on her family's hearts.

We love you baby. Always and forever.
